I LOVED DONNA KARAN’S BOOK SIGNING! AND I LOVE HER BOOK!!
WHEN SHE FIRST STARTED HER OWN COLLECTION, I WORE HER CLOTHES ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY!!
What fun I had going to the book signing of Donna Karan’s new memoir “My Journey” at our local bookstore Tecolote! I was so surprised she would be in Montecito!
I wore this coat! Now the surprise part!
I bought this coat in 1973 at “Gene Burtons” in Pasadena. It was an “Anne Klein” coat.
Unbeknownst to me at the time; Anne Klein had died recently, and the coat
was designed by Donna Karan, her assistant.
I was 26 years old; and so was Donna Karan.
Here I was at this book signing in this coat that, by this time, I knew Donna had designed!
I was standing in line waiting for her to sign my book and she stood up to say
hello to the crowd.
She looked right at me; did a double-take, and recognized this coat!!
She was so excited to see it; and remarked to the crowd:
“Why do I have to keep designing? I could just keep using my old designs!”
When I got to her, she said, “You absolutely have made my day!! I remember
that coat so well!!! It looks perfect!!!”
Here is what she wrote in my copy!
It was quite a thrill!!!!
HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU LOOK IN A COAT I REMEMBER SO WELL
WISH WE COULD LOOK AS FRESH AFTER ALL THESE YEARS”
NO KIDDING! 42 YEARS!!
This is a perfect example of buying classic clothes and keeping them the rest of your life!
I told Donna that every time I wear this coat; I get many compliments!!
