French Lavender Oil

by Posted On

When we were building our house;  we went on several trips to Provence.

We stayed on one trip at a wonderful hotel in Aix-en-Provence called La Villa Gallici.

It smelled absolutely divine;  so I looked everywhere for a housekeeper who spoke English!

I found one and asked her what on earth smelled so good!

She explained that they used drops of pure lavender oil on the carpets and rugs throughout the hotel!!!

It is a natural insect repellent;  it is a anti-anxiety treatment, and I have been using it at least 4 times a week ever since!

This is a big bottle;  but to use it on our rugs, it is convenient to have it in small bottles that release just drops at a time. This

bottle is to refill the small ones!

I don’t know how to make it!  I do make sachets out of our lavender!

Surprise!

And our little hen hatched 5 baby chicks just in time for Mother’s Day!!!

I transported her chicks to the “maternity ward” coop in this basket!  She is taking great care of them!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Penelope, it is true that lavender essence is amazing. We stayed twice last year at a cabanon that is rented out by a family that has cultivated it for generations–two important families in lavender married and what a huge part of the land they own! They still harvest some of it à la ancienne, truly back breaking work but the parfum is so different than the machine distilled essence’s, it is surprising. While there, I got a nasty bug bite–I put the lavender on it and it immediately healed up!

I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day–hooray for your baby chicks. 🙂

Penelope, this post has me smiling so much. Loving those little baby chicks, and it looks like the mother and you do as well. Something magical about lavender I think. Why does everyone on Earth love it? It must be magic.
Heals bug bites, removes doggie odors, is divine in the bath. Just heavenly.

Penelope…I just spent the night catching up with your blog….I’m so excited about your home being featured in the magazine…everything looks beautiful…your daughters house is looking great too…I love the blue! You were right…its the perfect color…and your chickens…their so cute! I also totally enjoyed reading about your dream job…sounds incredible.. I think you should make a coffee table book of your home…some of the proceeds could go to your charity to help dogs…I would be the first in line to buy it! Have a wonderful weekend…

Hello Penelope! My mother used to use lavender oil and though I love it I don’t use it because somehow it’s hers. Though I do love the idea of gently scenting the house. When I went to Marrakesh last year I bought a whole heap of amber which I absolutely love – it repels moths and makes everything sway in a heady swoon of deliciousness. But I could only buy it in little bricks, the smell of which ran out quickly. In Istanbul last month I discovered it in liquid form, so I shall be dropping it (modestly) all over the place.
